Lesson 6
"Yodel Without Fear" the Complete Song (yodel polka)
The folksong, "Wenn Ich auf hohen Bergen steh", can be considered an anthem of the Alps. Many professional Alpine yodelers have recorded this tune in their own style. The original German lyrics speak of the beauty of the Alps and of getting away from it all, but the yodelcourse version has been updated to reflect the experiences city dwellers. The English title "Yodel Without Fear" is a fun play on our work culture and always waiting for the weekend.
Increased Tempo
In Lessons 1-5 the yodel tempo was kept slow. For "Yodel Without Fear", I have slowed the practice yodels down, but the Yodeling with Friends final version is the true tempo, about 132 beats per minute.
Syncopation
In both the lead yodel and the second yodel part syncopation is used for a cool effect. Work on the dotted eighth notes.
Lyrics
The original German lyrics can be downloaded and used as well, but since this is the English version of yodelcourse the lyrics are in English.

The lead yodel uses intervals and patterns from Lesson 2. The pickup notes at the beginning will lead you right into the syncopated yodel. Aim for a clean the sixteenth note "del" leading to "oh". The syncopation in both yodel parts work well together providing they are locked in to the rhythm.
The second ending of the lead yodel begins in your chest voice on the C#. The A, B and C# are in falsetto. In the second measure the high D should be strong and close to your highest falsetto note.

Yodel Without Fear
My yodel comes from deep within
and echos far and wide It cuts right through the valley air and up the mountain side, A yodel takes you somewhere else so far away from here Ready set let’s let it out for one and all to hear |
Hey wait a minute somethings wrong
my phone begins to ring I take the call and say to them that yodeling is my thing I’m still at work but that’s OK I know the weekend’s near I throw my hands up in the air and yodel without fear |
When you're ready here is the Karaoke version of the entire song. There will be a four bar accordion intro then start with the yodeler.
